Alex Bono couldn't be at the MLS Super Draft because of a surprise call-up to the U.S. Men's National Team. How he found it which team drafted him was even more surprising.
Empire United graduate Alex Bono has had an exciting past few weeks and months, including a full National Team camp call-up by USMNT Head Coach Jurgen Klinsmann. On December 12th, he was named as one of three MAC Hermann Award finalists, awarded to the National Player of the Year. On January 7th, he signed a Generation adidas contract with MLS, which included entering the MLS draft as an underclassman and therefore foregoing his senior year at Syracuse University, where he was First Team All-American in 2014, in order to pursue his professional career. Just two days later, on January 9th, he received a call into the US Soccer Men's National Team camp, alongside eight World Cup veterans from Brazil 2014. Finally, on January 15th, Bono was selected #6 overall in the Major League Soccer draft by Toronto FC.
